Family Services
This program introduces the patient families to Embrace Kids Foundation, assesses their individual needs and recommends existing services and resources. Each family is provided with continual support during and after the treatment program.
Parent Tote Bags
Parents are first greeted by a Family Service Liaison and given a Parent Tote Bag containing items meant to ease their transition into a new life involving clinic visits and hospital stays. These items include phone cards, information regarding programs and services, and food coupons to redeem at area grocery stores.
Parent-to-Parent Groups
Lunch or dinner is hosted each week at the hospital by a parent of a patient who has completed therapy. This program provides a forum for hope and for patients' families to connect and lean on one another.
Adopt a Family Program
Students participating in various Rutgers University organizations are matched up with patient families who are currently in treatment. The students develop sincere and meaningful relationships with the children and spend time with the family at the hospital/clinic and at social activities.
Summer Sibling Program
During summer break, the brothers and sisters of patients often accompany their families to clinic and hospital visits. Fun, supervised activities are provided to keep the children entertained and to give their parents a much-needed break. We also provide buses for the children who go to camps specializing in cancer and blood disorders.
Additional Support
Specialized education nights are hosted on subjects such as Sickle Cell Disease, Coping with Special Needs Children, and Sibling Education. We also observe a Remembrance Day to honor the memory of the children who have lost their battle with cancer or a blood disorder.
